The St. Louis Cardinals nipped the Philadelphia Phillies in 11 innings 5 to 4
at Robison Field in a hard fought contest.

Both teams were tied at 4 runs apiece after nine innings.  St. Louis won the
game in the 11th inning.  After an out was recorded, Bob Bescher lined a
single.  Bruno Betzel came to the plate and ripped a one-base hit.  Betzel
took second on the throw.  Dots Miller then banged out a single giving St.
Louis the win and sending the home town fans into a frenzy.  St. Louis
finished with 15 hits while Philadelphia ended up with 10.  

The victory was credited to Hank Robinson(6-4) who went 3 innings, allowing no
runs. Stan Baumgartner(0-3) was the loser in relief.  He was knocked around
by St. Louis, allowing 6 hits and 4 walks in 3 and 1/3 innings.
