In a great finish the New York Yankees came back in the top of the ninth and
held on to win over the Washington Nationals by a score of 6 to 5 at Griffith
Stadium.

New York won the game with a rally in the 9th inning with 3 runs on 2 hits.
Ed Fitz Gerald led off and got things going when he drew a walk. Billy
Goodman next to the plate and he doubled. Richie Ashburn got his turn next,
but he was a strikeout victim. Ted Kluszewski was up next and he would
ground out bringing in a run. Ralph Kiner came to the plate and popped a
two-run clout over the fence. Despite losing, Washington out-hit New York 9
to 6.

Mel Parnell(7-5) got the win allowing no runs in 2 innings. Kirby Higbe(4-5)
was the losing pitcher in relief. He gave up 3 runs in 2 innings of work.

'Wayne Wilson was estatic following the game, 'You love stealing one on the
road like this. We just kept plugging away until we pulled it out!'
