Hank Sauer smacked 2 homeruns as the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Boston
Red Sox by a score of 4 to 3 at Forbes Field.

The deciding run was scored by Pittsburgh in the 8th.  After an out was
recorded, Sauer clubbed a solo home run.  Pittsburgh had 8 hits for the
afternoon while Boston had 5.  

The victory was credited to Ewell Blackwell(1-3) who went 1 inning, allowing
no runs. Blackwell got relief help from Joe Page who gained credit for his
14th save.  Ralph Branca(2-1) was hit with the loss.  He was touched for 4
homeruns in his 8 innings of work.
