WEB GEMS- Bot 1st: Gene Woodling robbed Irv Noren of an extra base hit.
Top 6th: Ray Boone robbed Willard Marshall of a base hit.

Shortstop Ray Boone lofted one into the 'cheap seats' and had 3 RBI at
Griffith Stadium where the Washington Nationals beat the Philadelphia-AL
Athletics 6 to 5.

The game was won by Washington when they scored a run in the 8th inning.
After an out was recorded, Boone slapped a base-hit. Al Brazle then uncorked
a pitch that was ruled a passed ball. Bobby Adams then was walked
intentionally. One out later, Irv Noren came to bat and banged out a single
scoring the run. This was a game of many highs and lows for the home town
fans, as the lead kept changing - 5 times in all.

Bob Porterfield(2-1) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 2/3 of an
inning. Carl Erskine got the save, his 4th. Brazle(5-7) was given the loss
in relief.

Washington now has a record of 31-48. The loss by Philadelphia-AL interrupted
a nice 8-2 recent run.
