Jack O'Brien had 4 hits and 5 RBI as the Philadelphia Athletics won at League
Park in dramatic fashion over the Toledo Maumees, the final score, 13 to
12.
The game was decided in the 9th inning. After an out was recorded, Wilbert
Robinson drew a walk. One out later, Egyptian Healy then threw a high and
inside pitch that got by the catcher; it was ruled a passed ball. Denny
Lyons then was walked intentionally. Orator Shafer was up next and he drew a
walk to load the bases. Blondie Purcell came up to bat and drew a walk
giving Philadelphia the win and sending the home town fans into a frenzy.
This was the kind of game that many fans love as the lead changed hands 7
times.
Ed Green(5-10) went 4 and 2/3 innings allowing 2 runs for the win. The loss
was charged to Healy(17-7) in relief. 'O'Brien led the way - we just jumped
on his back and let him take us,' Green said. 'I'm glad I don't have to face
him. I'm glad he's on my team.'
