Philadelphia-AL went ahead for good in the 6th inning scoring a single run on 2 hits. Washington threatened in the 9th but Philadelphia-AL was able to put down the rally. Bob Lemon(13-3) got credit for the victory, pitching 6 innings and allowing 2 runs. Lemon was helped out by Luis Aloma who recorded his 14th save. Warren Spahn(8-8) was charged with the loss. He pitched 9 innings and surrendered 7 hits and 3 walks. 'We just made a lot of mistakes, mostly mental,' Gordy Renaud said. 'It's bad enough when the other team beats you, but when you start beating yourselves, that's really bad.'
