Left fielder Hank Sauer hit one over the fence and had 3 RBI at Griffith
Stadium where the Philadelphia-AL Athletics beat the Washington Nationals in
10 innings 6 to 4.

The score was knotted at 4 after nine innings. Philadelphia-AL came out the
victor in the 10th inning.  Sammy White got things going when he slapped a
base-hit.  Johnny Logan stepped into the batter's box and he stroked a
single, and an error was also committed.  Gene Woodling then ripped a single
which scored a run.  Bobby Avila was up next and he doubled scoring the final
run of the inning.  Both teams totaled 10 hits on the afternoon.  

Fritz Dorish(1-3) went 1 and 2/3 innings allowing no runs for the victory.
Harry Byrd(2-7) was the loser in relief.  He allowed 2 runs and 4 hits in 2
and 1/3 innings.
