The Philadelphia-AL Athletics nipped the Cincinnati Reds 5 to 4 at Crosley
Field in a hard fought contest.

Philadelphia-AL took the lead for keeps in the top of the 5th inning plating
an isolated run on 2 base hits. Cincinnati made it exciting in the 9th, but
they were unable to push the needed runs across.

Billy Hoeft(7-4) was the winner allowing 4 runs in 8 and 1/3 innings. Fritz
Dorish earned the save, his 6th. Bob Keegan(1-6) was hit with the loss. He
surrendered 4 runs and 8 hits in 6 innings.

Rob Hickok was clearly disappointed after the game. 'It was a manager's
nightmare out there', he said, 'We should have had this one.'
