Willie Mays homered and had 2 RBI as the Pittsburgh Pirates bested the New
York-AL Yankees 4 to 3 at Forbes Field.

Pittsburgh took the lead for keeps in the bottom of the 6th inning plating an
isolated run.  New York-AL tried unsuccessfully to come back in the 9th.

Bob Turley(7-6) was the winner allowing 3 runs in 6 innings. Jim Konstanty
preserved the game for Turley, recording his his 14th save.  Herm
Wehmeier(10-3) suffered the loss.  He allowed 12 hits and 2 walks in 8
innings.  

Robert Baker was subdued after the ballgame, 'That one really hurts.  If our
guys had simply played more fundamentally sound, we could have won that one.
That is what really ticks me off!'
