separated the combatants at game's end.  The Chicago-NL Cubs won by the
slimmest of margins, 5 to 4.

The score was tied at 4 after nine.  Finally, Chicago-NL prevailed in the 10th
inning.  Chief Meyers singled, and an error was also committed.  John Hummel
stepped up next and he laid down a sacrifice bunt.  Rube Oldring then hit a
deep fly scoring the run.  Chicago-NL managed 9 hits in their victory.

Eddie Plank(13-6) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 2 innings. Fred
Burchell(0-1) was the loser in relief.  He was pinned with the loss despite
not allowing an earned run in his 2 innings of work.  

Chicago-NL now has a record of 39-40.  With this loss, Boston-NL has a 4-6
record of late, 42-49, worst in the division overall.
