Tillie Shafer had 2 base hits as the Cincinnati Reds came back to win one over
struggling Chicago-NL Cubs, 3 to 2.

Cincinnati scored the decisive runs in a big 9th inning plating 2 runs using 2
hits. After an out was recorded, Shafer initiated the scoring spurt when he
slapped a single. After another out, Gus Williams stepped in and he reached
on an error. Nap Lajoie then drew a walk to load the bases. Ray Schalk was
up next and he lined a single resulting in an exciting win for Cincinnati and
a raucous post-game celebration by the home town fans. Cincinnati rapped out
7 hits for the afternoon.

The winning pitcher was Charlie Smith(8-5) who allowed no runs in 1 inning.
Willie Mitchell(10-11) was given the loss in relief. He was the victim of a
defensive lapse and did not allow an earned run in the game.

'Wow, that was fun!', Smith said following the game. 'Once in a while you
play a game that reminds you just why you got into this business to begin
with!'
