Ray Boone had 2 base hits as the Washington Nationals won in dramatic fashion
over the Philadelphia-AL Athletics by a score of 6 to 3 at Griffith
Stadium.
Washington had the winning rally in the 9th inning scoring 5 runners on 5
hits. The highlight belonged to Johnny Groth who electrified Griffith
Stadium when he belted a three-run homer. Washington out-hit Philadelphia-AL
for the game, 12 hits to 8.
Corky Valentine(2-6) got the win allowing no runs in 2 innings. Bob G
Miller(1-2) was the loser in relief. He pitched 1/3 of an inning giving up 4
hits and no walks.

this, of course,' Gordy Renaud offered. 'Everyone at the stadium had a great
time - did you see the fans go wild there at the end?!'
