WEB GEMS- Bot 1st: Gil Hodges robbed Nellie Fox of a base hit.

Nellie Fox had 4 hits and 6 RBI at Crosley Field as the seemingly unstoppable
Cincinnati Reds beat the Kansas City Athletics 16 to 7.

Fox helped send the fans home happy. He ripped a base-hit scoring two
baserunners in the 2nd inning, ripped a base-knock which was good for two
runs in the 5th inning, blasted a solo shot in the 7th inning and delivered a
single which scored a run in the 8th inning. Cincinnati kept the
scorekeepers busy in the 2nd inning plating 4 runs. Cincinnati simply wore
out the Kansas City pitching staff, scoring in 6 different innings.

The win went to Tom Poholsky(9-3) who allowed 6 runs in 5 innings. Willard
Schmidt earned his 1st save. Larry Jackson(2-9) absorbed the loss. He got
hit pretty hard, allowing 7 hits and 2 walks in 3 innings.

Fox said, 'It was just all timing. I had pretty good rhythm at the plate
today. You've got to take advantage of mistakes when you can. A couple
pitches were definitely up a little bit - right in my zone.'
