TEAM RISP- Athletics: 21 for 37 Grays: 9 for 25

Center fielder Henry Larkin had 5 hits as the Philadelphia Athletics won in
dramatic fashion over the Brooklyn Grays by a score of 36 to 16 at Washington
Park.

Philadelphia bats came alive with a big 9th inning as they showed no mercy on
Brooklyn blasting them for 19 hits and plating 24 runs. The highlight
belonged to Larkin who helped quiet the crowd when he launched a Grand Slam
homerun. Philadelphia kept the scorekeepers busy in the 5th inning with 4
runs on 3 hits and the 9th inning which saw them score 24 runs on 19 hits.
The Philadelphia offense poured it on, scoring in 7 of the 9 innings.

The win was credited to Bobby Mathews(18-12) who went 3 innings allowing 5
runs. Jimmy Peoples(1-4) was given the loss in relief. He was unable to
control the Philadelphia offense and allowed 21 hits and 4 walks in 2
innings.

Harry Stovey was feeling mighty fine as he answered questions in his office
after the game, 'Now that was one fine ending! Did you see how the crowd just
sat there in silence after the winning run scored? Here we are celebrating
wildly, and the stadium is cloaked in virtual silence. Weird. but GREAT!'
