Phenomenal Smith was able to finish what he started and was credited with a
complete game as the Philadelphia Phillies bested the Cincinnati Reds 4 to 3
at League Park.

Philadelphia jumped out to the early lead in the first inning scoring a single
run. Cincinnati made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push
the needed runs across.

Smith(8-4) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 3 runs. Lee Viau(4-7)
was tagged with the loss. Tom Loftus was reflective after the loss, 'We
should have won this one, we just made one too many mistakes. Son-of-a-gun,
that added a couple more white hairs on this noggin of mine.'
