Joe Blong went the distance and catcher Mike Dorgan had 4 hits and scored 3
times at Baseball Park as the St. Louis Brown Stockings embarrassed the
Louisville Grays by the lopsided score of 15 to 4.
Louisville fell behind quickly as the St. Louis offense came through in the
first inning plating 3 runs using 2 hits. Dorgan started the inning off
right when he stroked a one-base hit. John Clapp stepped up next and he
reached on an error. Mike McGeary then reached on an error bringing in a
run. Art Croft came up and he slapped a base-hit plating another run. Davy
Force stepped into the box and grounded into a double play scoring the final
run of the inning. St. Louis bats were very productive in the 9th inning
with 6 runs on 4 hits. St. Louis had a total of 16 hits for the game.
The win went to Blong(3-7) who allowed 4 runs in the game. Jim Devlin(22-12)
was the losing pitcher. He was unable to control the St. Louis offense and
