Joe McGinnity completed the game without help from the bullpen as the New York
Giants defeated the awful Boston Beaneaters by a score of 8 to 1 at South End
Grounds.

New York wasted no time and took the lead in the first inning scoring 3 runs
using 3 hits. George Browne kicked off the action when he doubled. Roger
Bresnahan stepped into the batter's box and he slapped a one-base hit plating
a run. Bresnahan took off for second and slid in with a stolen base. Dan
McGann came up and he singled. Togie Pittinger then threw a high and inside
pitch that got by the catcher; it was ruled a passed ball plating one more
runner. After an out was recorded, Charlie Babb came to the plate and would
ground out scoring the final run of the inning. The early run support proved
sufficient for McGinnity(18-10) and New York. That was all the run support
McGinnity required. New York banged out 13 hits on the afternoon.

Pittinger(8-16) suffered the loss. He got hammered, allowing 13 hits and 3
walks in 8 and 2/3 innings. The New York ballclub's record now stands at
44-41. Still in a bad slump, with this loss, Boston is 2-8 lately and 24-59,
worst in the league on the year.
