Catcher Jim Hegan smacked 2 triples and had 4 RBI at Yankee Stadium where the
Washington Nationals beat the New York-AL Yankees by the score of 9 to
8.

Hegan provided much of the offense. He tripled bringing in two baserunners in
the 1st inning and tripled scoring a run in the 3rd inning. New York-AL had
a chance in the 9th but they came up short.

Warren Spahn(13-8) got credit for the victory, pitching 8 and 1/3 innings and
allowing 7 runs. Jim Konstanty recorded his 19th save. Robin Roberts(8-14)
was the losing pitcher. He was knocked around pretty good, giving up 8 runs
in 2 and 1/3 innings.

'I didn't have my best stuff but sometimes you just get lucky,' Spahn said,
'this was one of those times.'
