In a close game it was the New York-AL Yankees 5, the dreadful Chicago-NL Cubs
3 at Wrigley Field.

New York-AL had the game winning rally in the 8th inning when they tallied 4
runs on 3 hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by Minnie Minoso who
deflated the mood of the partisan fans when he doubled which was good for two
runs. New York-AL finished with 7 hits in the victory.

Connie Marrero(1-0) allowed 3 runs in 8 and 1/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Bob Kuzava was credited with his 11th save. Vic Raschi(8-10) was
charged with the loss.

'I just wanted to give my team a chance to win.' said Marrero, 'I got burned
on a couple of pitches. But we won the game, and that's all that matters.'
