WEB GEMS- Bot 5th: Al Kaline robbed Jim Hearn of an extra base hit.

One run was the difference at Crosley Field as the Cleveland Indians defeated
the Cincinnati Reds 5 to 4.

Cleveland started with a bang, jumping out to an early lead in their half of
the first scoring 4 runners on 5 hits. The key at-bat was by Gene Baker who
deflated the crowd as he slapped a single which was good for two runs.
Cincinnati made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push the
needed runs across.

The win was credited to Frank Sullivan(5-10) who went 6 and 1/3 innings
allowing 4 runs. Don Mossi gained credit for his 7th save. Jim Hearn(2-2)
was hit with the loss.

'You have to give Cincinnati credit, they fought us tough to the end' Mel
Gross said. 'It could have gone either way, but I'm glad we pulled out the
victory.'
