Skowron had a good evening at the plate. He stroked a base-hit in the 1st inning, doubled in the 3rd inning and emptied the bases with a Grand Slam homerun in the 5th inning. Pittsburgh provided plenty of action in the 3rd inning which saw them plate 4 runs on 4 hits and the 5th inning scoring 4 runs. For the game Pittsburgh out-hit Washington 19 to 6. Pierce(13-4) got the win allowing no runs in 5 innings. Dick Donovan preserved the game for Pierce, recording his his 10th save. Warren Spahn(15-9) ended up with the loss. He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 9 hits and 2 walks in 2 and 2/3 innings. Wth the win Pittsburgh now has a record of 73-57. With the loss, the Washington ballclub's record is 64-62.
