In a good matchup it was the Pittsburgh Pirates 8, the St. Louis Cardinals 6
in 10 innings at Sportsman's Park.

Both teams were tied at 6 runs apiece after nine innings. Pittsburgh won the
hard fought contest in the 10th inning. Mickey Vernon led off and keyed the
rally when he doubled. Willie Jones was next to the plate, but was promptly
struck out. Early Wynn then laced a base-hit resulting in a run. Wynn took
second on the throw. After another out, Hoot Evers came to the plate and
drew a walk. Red Schoendienst came up to bat and lined a one-base hit
scoring the final run of the inning. Pittsburgh finished with 18 hits while
St. Louis ended up with 12.

The victory went to Wynn(6-2) who went 2 innings, allowing no runs. Wynn was
helped out by Eddie Erautt who recorded his 10th save. Monk Dubiel(3-2) was
tagged with the loss in relief.
