At Forbes Field, the Pittsburgh faithful were treated to an intriguing
pitcher's duel.  Early Wynn(12-7) finally bested his Washington counterpart,
Bob Porterfield(14-8), by the score of 3 to 1.

Pittsburgh won the game with a rally in the bottom of the 8th inning with 2
runs.  After an out was recorded, Al Dark was the sparkplug when he reached
on an error.  Mickey Vernon next to the plate and he tripled knocking in a
run.  Bobby Thomson then hit a sacrifice fly scoring the final run of the
inning.  Pittsburgh had only 6 hits for the game.  

Wynn got help from Ellis Kinder who earned his 24th save.  Porterfield was the
loser.  With this win, Pittsburgh has a 73-50 record.  They have been 6-4
lately.  Washington has a record of 59-60 after the loss.
