A hugely decisive outburst by Detroit in the top of the 9th inning quieted any Washington hopes for a victory as they ripped Washington for 8 runs on 7 hits. The crucial at-bat was provided by Red Smith who helped quiet the crowd when he laced a base-knock which was good for two runs. For the game Detroit out-hit Washington 13 to 7. The win was credited to Ray Fisher(3-4) who went 1 inning allowing no runs. Pat Ragan(1-2) was the losing pitcher. Jim Murphy was all smiles after the game, 'To pull a game out in your last at bats, is a beautiful feeling - and did you see how quiet it got out there? You could have heard a pin drop when we took the lead. But, hey, that's what makes baseball so great - as the great sage Yogi Berra says, 'it's not over 'til its over.'
