In a close game the Cincinnati Reds got by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 11
innings by the score of 3 to 1.

Both teams were tied at 1 runs apiece after nine innings.  Cincinnati won the
hard fought contest in the 11th inning.  Larry Doby led off the inning for
Cincinnati when he laced a one-base hit.  Jackie Robinson next to the plate
and he banged out a single.  After an out was recorded, Hank Arft then drew a
walk to load the bases.  Bubba Church then unleashed a wild pitch which
plated a run.  Church then was wild with a pitch scoring the final run of the
inning.  Cincinnati had a total of 9 hits for the game.  

Bill Wight(10-4) got credit for the victory, pitching 2 innings and allowing
no runs. Bob Miller recorded his 11th save.  Church(4-8) was given the loss
in relief.
