Jocko Flynn allowed Cap Anson to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game and Anson hit a homerun and had 5 RBI as the indomitable Chicago White Stockings defeated the pathetic Washington Nationals 6 to 4 at Swampoodle Grounds. Chicago came up with the deciding runs in the 9th inning plating 2 runs. After an out was recorded, George Gore opened up the rally as he drew a walk. Gore got a great jump and stole second easily. King Kelly then drew a walk. Tony Madigan then let one slip out of his hand for a wild pitch. Anson came up to bat and singled which was good for two runs. Washington was retired without difficulty in the bottom of the 9th. Flynn(10-3) lasted until the end allowing 4 runs for the win. Madigan(2-6) absorbed the loss. He gave up 6 runs and 10 hits in 9 innings.
