where the very strong Cincinnati Reds beat the Philadelphia Phillies by the
score of 2 to 1.

Rhines(24-5) pitched a solid game.  He went 9 innings allowing 8 hits and 4
walks.  Philadelphia threatened in the 9th but Cincinnati was able to put
down the rally.  

Phenomenal Smith(8-5) was the losing pitcher.  He was a hard-luck loser as he
did not allow an earned run in his 8 innings of work.
