The home town fans were very appreciative of the fine hitting performance provided by Hickman. He bombed a two-run dinger in the 1st inning, banged out a single in the 2nd inning and smacked a one-base hit in the 4th inning. Washington bats were hot in the 2nd inning which saw them plate 7 runs on 6 hits and the 4th inning with 4 runs on 4 hits. Boston-AL was not lacking for run support as they scored in 5 separate innings, yet victory eluded them as they seemed to forget that pitching is also needed to win ballgames. Ned Garvin(15-10) went 6 innings allowing 2 runs for the win. Al Orth(4-5) was the loser. By surrending 7 runs in 1 and 1/3 innings his ERA jumped from 4.10 to 4.48.
