One run was the difference at Forbes Field as the Washington Nationals
defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 5 to 4.

Carl Erskine(11-7) pitched okay, well enough for the win.  He was reached for
9 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings.  Washington finished with 10 hits in the
victory.  

Fritz Dorish recorded the save, his 10th.  Bob Turley(13-7) ended up with the
loss.  He surrendered 5 runs and 8 hits in 6 and 1/3 innings.  

'I didn't have my best stuff but sometimes you just get lucky,' Erskine said,
'this was one of those times.'
