Kid Nichols completed the game without help from the bullpen as the Boston
Beaneaters pulled out a win over the Washington Senators by a score of 3 to 2
at South End Grounds.
The game was won by Boston when they scored a run in the bottom of the 9th
inning. After an out was recorded, Bobby Lowe hit a single. After another
out, Nichols stepped up to the plate and he stroked a single. Billy Hamilton
then lined a single giving Boston the win and sending the home town fans into
a frenzy. Boston finished with 8 hits in the victory.
Nichols(12-10) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 2 runs. Win
Mercer(7-12) was the losing pitcher. He pitched 8 and 2/3 innings giving up
8 hits and 3 walks.
