Tigers topped the Washington Nationals by the slimmest of margins, 4 to
3.
Detroit took the lead off Hooks Wiltse in the first inning plating 2 runs on 3
hits. Matty McIntyre got things going when he doubled. Mike Mowrey came to
the plate and banged out a single, and an error was also committed, scoring a
run. George Stone then ripped a base-hit scoring the final run of the
inning. Detroit had 11 hits for the afternoon while Washington had 7.
The winning pitcher was Bugs Raymond(13-10) who allowed 3 runs in 7 and 1/3
innings. Elmer Steele recorded his 38th save. Wiltse(12-8) took the loss.
He got hit pretty hard, allowing 10 hits and 2 walks in 7 and 2/3 innings.
With this win, Detroit has a division leading 71-40 record. They have been
7-3 lately. With this loss, Washington has a 5-5 record of late, 62-48
overall.
