One run was the difference at Sportsman's Park as the Philadelphia Phillies
defeated the St. Louis Cardinals in 10 innings 3 to 2.

Both teams had scored 2 runs after nine full innings.  Finally, Philadelphia
pulled the game out in the 10th inning.  Sherm Lollar doubled.  Phil Rizzuto
followed next and he was walked intentionally.  Nellie Fox then laid down a
sacrifice bunt.  Hank Bauer was up next and he was walked intentionally to
load the bases.  Stan Musial came up to bat and hit a deep fly scoring the
run.  Philadelphia took care of St. Louis with no trouble in the bottom of
the 10th.  

Tiny Bonham(6-2) was the winner allowing no runs in 1 inning. Al Benton
preserved the game for Bonham, recording his his 3rd save.  The loss was
charged to Bill Werle(4-2) in relief.
