In an embarrassing outing for the Philadelphia-NL Phillies pitching staff,
Pittsburgh Pirates flexed their collective muscle amassing 17 runs as Early
Wynn(11-11), with relief help from Bob Friend, allowed Philadelphia-NL 5
runs.
Dale Mitchell had a big evening at the plate. He lifted one out of the park
for a two run home run in the 3rd inning, slapped a base-hit which scored a
run in the 4th inning and stroked a single bringing in a run in the 9th
inning. Pittsburgh provided plenty of action in the 4th inning with 5 runs
on 5 hits, the 8th inning which saw them score 4 runs on 3 hits and the 9th
inning when they had 4 runs on 5 hits. Pittsburgh dominated offensively as
they scored in 6 different innings.
Jocko Thompson(5-6) was the losing pitcher. He served up 3 homeruns in his 4
innings.
