George Van Haltren pitched a complete game at West Side Park as the Chicago
White Stockings pulled off a dramatic comeback beating the New York Giants by
the count of 3 to 2.

Chicago scored the decisive runs in a big bottom of the 9th inning with 2 runs
using 2 hits. Van Haltren led off and started the rally when he reached on
an error. Billy Sunday was next and he stroked a base-hit. Jimmy Ryan then
drew a walk to load the bases. Marty Sullivan followed and he delivered a
single making Chicago the victors to the delight of the home town faithful.
Both teams ended up with 6 hits on the afternoon.

Van Haltren(5-3) was the winner allowing 2 runs for the game. Mickey
Welch(11-8) was the loser. He surrendered 6 hits and 1 walk in 8 innings.

Van Haltren and Sullivan were really whooping it up in the clubhouse after the
great come from behind victory. As Cap Anson noted, 'A win like this one can
do wonders for a team's attitude.' Everyone shares in the joy - the fans, the
players - even you guys - it's better than winning by a dozen runs!'
