In a close game it was the Pittsburgh Pirates 4, the Philadelphia-NL Phillies
2 in 11 innings at Shibe Park.
Both teams were tied at 2 runs apiece after nine innings. Finally, Pittsburgh
pulled the game out in the 11th inning. Mickey Vernon led off and keyed the
rally when he delivered a single. After an out was recorded, Willie Jones
came up and he cleared the fences for a two-run home run. Pittsburgh
finished with 12 hits in the victory.
Ellis Kinder(6-4) got the win allowing no runs in 3 innings. Dizzy Trout(16-5)
ended up with the loss in relief. He pitched 1 and 2/3 innings giving up 3
hits and no walks.
