WEB GEMS- Bot 7th: Dick Johnston robbed Arthur Irwin of an extra base hit.

Old Hoss Radbourn tossed a complete game as the Boston Reds won in dramatic
fashion over the New York Giants by a score of 8 to 7 at Congress St
Grounds.

Boston came through with the game-winning runs in the bottom of the 9th inning
scoring 2 runs on 2 hits. Hardy Richardson opened up the inning nicely when
he stroked a base-hit. Billy Nash was next and he slapped a single. Joe
Quinn then worked the squeeze play to perfection which plated a run. Arthur
Irwin followed next and he drew a walk. John Ewing then had one get away for
a wild pitch. After another out, Tom Brown stepped up to the plate and he
reached on an error making Boston the winners and sending the 6,317 fans home
happy. This was the kind of game that many fans love as the lead changed
hands 5 times.

The winning pitcher was Radbourn(16-9) who allowed 7 runs for the game.
Ewing(9-8) took the loss. He was touched for 14 hits and 5 walks in 8 and
2/3 innings.

'What a game!,' Radbourn said afterward. 'When we won it I almost couldn't
believe it!'
