WEB GEMS- Top 6th: Addie Joss robbed Bob Ganley of a base hit.

Charlie Smith was on top of his game, blanking Cleveland on just 4 hits as the
Washington Nationals beat the Cleveland Naps in 11 innings by a score of 1 to
0.

No runners had crossed home plate after the regulation nine. Washington came
out the victor in the 11th inning. Bill Shipke stroked a base-hit. Bob
Ganley was next and he reached on an error. Bob Unglaub then slapped a
single to load the bases. After another out, Bob Edmondson came up and he
hit a sacrifice fly scoring the run. Washington totaled 8 hits on the
afternoon.

For Smith(9-6) it was his 2nd shutout this year. Addie Joss(11-11) was charged
with the loss. It was a tough loss for him as he did not allow an earned run
in his 11 innings of work.

'I had my good stuff today.' Smith said. 'As the game went along I started to
get the feeling that I was going to strike out a bunch of hitters.'
