46,314 fans watched an exciting game at Municipal Stadium.  The Boston Red Sox
topped the Cleveland Indians by the slimmest of margins, 5 to 4.

Boston won the game with a run in the top of the 9th inning.  After two outs
George Kell laced a one-base hit.  Lou Boudreau came next and he doubled
scoring the run.  Both teams ended up with 8 hits on the afternoon.  

Tommy Byrne(6-5) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1 inning. Mickey
Haefner recorded his 2nd save.  Fred Martin(2-3) was given the loss in
relief.  

Boston now has a record of 61-71.  With the loss Cleveland now has a record of
79-41.
