Wes Westrum had 4 hits and 2 RBI and Eddie Erautt quieted any hopes that New
York may have had of a comeback at Yankee Stadium as the Pittsburgh Pirates
pulled off a dramatic comeback beating the New York Yankees by the count of 8
to 6.

Pittsburgh scored the winning runs in the top of the 9th inning scoring 4
runners on 3 hits. The critical plate appearance was by Bobby Thomson who
deflated the spirits of the home town crowd when he doubled bringing home two
baserunners. A wild affair, this game saw the lead change 5 times.

Ewell Blackwell(2-4) was the winner allowing 3 runs in 2 innings. Erautt
preserved the game for Blackwell, recording his his 9th save. Mel
Parnell(13-10) was charged with the loss. He pitched 8 and 2/3 innings and
surrendered 10 hits and 1 walk.

Parnell was feeling apologetic in the locker room, 'I sure let that one get
away. What a miserable feeling to let the guys down; and our fans. One
minute things are looking great, then. BOOM, it's over with! I just hope I
get a chance to redeem myself real soon!'
