Billy Pierce took a no-hitter into the 6th inning as the sizzling Pittsburgh
Pirates defeated the dreadful Washington Nationals 2 to 0 at Forbes
Field.
Pierce(9-6) was simply too much for the Washington batters. He gave up just 3
hits and no walks in 9 innings. The left-handed Pierce lost a no-hitter when
Bobby Young singled with one out in the 6th inning. Pittsburgh had just 4
hits for the afternoon.
Duane Pillette(1-1) was given the loss. He surrendered 4 hits and 3 walks in
8 innings. Pittsburgh continued their winning ways, with their streak now at
7 games and counting. 'I'm glad to get the win', Pierce said. 'We've got
some good momentum going now.'
