George Zettlein went the distance as the Chicago White Stockings won at 23rd
Street Grounds in dramatic fashion over the New York Mutuals, the final
score, 12 to 11.

The game was won by Chicago when they scored a run in the 9th inning. Ned
Cuthbert laced a base-knock. Davy Force stepped up next and he stroked a
single. Bobby Mathews then tossed a pitch that the catcher mis-handled.
Fergy Malone followed and he would hit into a fielders choice making Chicago
the victor and beginning a joyous home town celebration. Due to a poorly
pitched ballgame, scoring in 5 different innings was still not enough for New
York to come away with the victory.

Zettlein(16-16) finished the game allowing 11 runs in the victory. The loss
was charged to Mathews(22-17). He allowed Chicago 12 runs in 8 innings of
work.
