Harry Howell came through with a solid 9 innings as the St. Louis-AL Browns
beat the Boston-AL Americans in 16 innings by a score of 2 to 1.
The game was deadlocked at 1 after nine full innings. St. Louis-AL won the
hard fought contest in the 16th inning. Jimmy Slagle banged out a single.
Spike Shannon came next and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. After another
out, Sherry Magee then stroked a single scoring the run. Neither team was
able to score until the 6th inning.
The winning pitcher was Tully Sparks(10-8) who allowed no runs in 6 and 2/3
innings. Harry Hardy earned the save, his 2nd. Joe McGinnity(10-15) was
tagged with the loss in relief. He allowed 2 hits and no walks in 3 and 1/3
innings.
