Shortstop John Radcliff had 4 hits and 3 RBI and Bobby Mathews pitched 9
strong innings as the floundering Brooklyn E Eckfords were badly beaten by
the smoking-hot Baltimore Canaries, 17 to 3.
Baltimore took the lead for good in the top of the 4th inning scoring 2
runners on 2 hits. The biggest moment was provided by Dick Higham who
quieted the crowd when he stroked a base-hit scoring two baserunners.
Baltimore bats were hot in the 6th inning which saw them score 8 runs on 6
hits. Baltimore dominated offensively as they scored in 6 different innings.
The win was credited to Mathews(16-10) who went the whole way allowing 3 runs.
George Zettlein(12-11) was charged with the loss. Baltimore scored big
getting 17 runs off him in 9 innings.
Baltimore remained hot, improving their record to 20-12. They now have a
record of 9-1 in recent days. Andy Allison was pretty down after the loss.
'We've really been sputtering along lately, something like 1-9 in the last
week or two. That won't get it done.'
