Bill Carrick allowed Jim Manning to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game
at American League Park as the Philadelphia Athletics lost a heartbreaker to
Washington Senators by the score of 7 to 6.
Washington scored the deciding run in the bottom of the 9th inning. After two
outs Boileryard Clarke lashed a single. Irv Waldron stepped up next and he
reached on an error. John Farrell then reached on an error making Washington
the winners and sending the 2,397 fans home happy. Washington won despite
being out-hit by Philadelphia 13 hits to 9.
The win was credited to Carrick(9-14) who went the whole way allowing 6 runs.
Bill Bernhard(8-6) took the loss. He surrendered 9 hits and no walks in 8
and 2/3 innings.
'I had a little blister on my index finger before the game, but I thought it
was nothing.' Carrick said. 'I was lucky I got a win because I couldn't put
the ball where I wanted it.'
