WEB GEMS- Top 9th: Charley Jones robbed Paul Hines of an extra base hit.

Catcher Deacon White had 7 hits and 5 RBI and Al Spalding completed the game
without help from the bullpen at Avenue Grounds as the seemingly unstoppable
Chicago White Stockings belted the reeling Cincinnati Reds by the count of 28
to 2.

White had a big day with his bat. He stroked a single which plated a run in
the 1st inning, ripped a one-base hit in the 2nd inning, banged out a single
scoring a run in the 3rd inning, delivered a base-hit in the 5th inning,
slapped a base-hit which brought home a run in the 5th inning, laced a single
in the 8th inning and doubled bringing in two baserunners in the 9th inning.
Chicago lit up the scoreboard in the 1st inning when they had 4 runs on 5
hits, the 3rd inning which saw them score 4 runs on 5 hits, the 5th inning
with 10 runs on 7 hits and the 9th inning which saw them plate 4 runs on 3
hits. The Chicago offense poured it on, scoring in 7 of the 9 innings.

The victory went to Spalding(38-6) who went the distance allowing 2 runs. Dory
Dean(2-14) suffered the loss. He allowed Chicago 28 runs in 8 and 2/3
innings of work.

With the win, Chicago continues their noteworthy winning streak.
