Kid Nichols pitched a complete game and second baseman Bobby Lowe had 5 hits
and 2 RBI as the Boston Beaneaters clobbered the outmatched Brooklyn Grooms,
23 to 5.
Lowe was a seemingly constant irritant to the hometown fans as he provided
much of the offense for the visitors. He tripled in the 1st inning, stroked
a one-base hit in the 2nd inning, smacked a single bringing in a run in the
3rd inning, lined a base-hit which brought home a run in the 4th inning and
doubled in the 9th inning. Boston lit up the scoreboard in the 4th inning
plating 4 runs and the 9th inning with 6 runs on 7 hits. The Boston offense
man-handled the Brooklyn pitching staff as they scored in 7 of the 9 innings.
Nichols(19-12) allowed 5 runs on the game. Brickyard Kennedy(10-15) suffered
the loss. He was touched for 20 hits and 6 walks in 8 and 1/3 innings.
