Johnny Kling smacked 2 triples as the Cincinnati Reds defeated the league
door-mat Boston-AL Americans by a score of 5 to 2 at Huntington Ave
Grnds.
Cincinnati took the lead for keeps in the top of the 2nd inning scoring one
runner. Dave Brain reached on an error. After an out was recorded, Chick
Stahl stepped up to the plate and he lined a single scoring the run.
Boston-AL tried unsuccessfully to come back in the 9th.
Christy Mathewson(9-16) got credit for the victory, pitching 7 and 2/3 innings
and allowing 1 run. Jack Townsend recorded the save, his 8th. Chief
Bender(5-13) was hit with the loss.
'This was a tough loss,' said Dale Van Leven, 'the kind that sticks with you
for awhile.'
