The Brooklyn Robins came roaring back in the top of the ninth to spoil the
anticipated celebration of the hometown fans. The final score,, was 6 to
5.
Brooklyn came through with the game-winning runs in the 9th inning plating 3
runs. Gus Getz kicked off the action when he reached on an error. Joe
Schultz stepped into the batter's box and he reached on an error. Casey
Stengel then drew a walk to load the bases. Hy Myers came up and he drew a
walk plating a run. Ollie O'Mara stepped into the box and smacked a single
driving in another run. Jake Daubert added to the uprising and hit a deep
fly scoring the final run of the inning. Chicago could do no damage in the
bottom of the 9th.
The win went to Ed Appleton(6-8) who allowed no runs in 2 innings. Larry
Cheney(6-9) was hit with the loss in relief. He was the victim of a
defensive lapse and did not allow an earned run in the game.
Roger Bresnahan was understandably not very talkative after his team's tough
loss. He quickly showered and changed and when asked about the game had a
terse, yet polite response, 'Hey fellows, that game was a heart-breaker to
lose. Our guys gave it their all and played well - fate just wasn't smilin'
on us this afternoon'
