TEAM RISP- Cubs: 6 for 24 Nationals: 0 for 6

Duke Snider had 4 hits and 2 RBI at Griffith Stadium where the Chicago-NL Cubs
beat the Washington Nationals 6 to 4.

Chicago-NL set the tone of the game in the first inning plating 3 runs
utilizing 5 base hits. Whitey Lockman started the inning off right when he
laced a base-hit. Davey Williams stepped up next and he delivered a one-base
hit. Eddie Yost then lashed a single to load the bases. Snider followed and
he stroked a base-hit scoring a run. After another out, Elmer Valo stepped
in and he hit a sacrifice fly scoring another run. Joe Ginsberg joined his
teammates in the uprising and ripped a base-knock, and an error was also
committed, scoring the final run of the inning. Washington was out-hit by
Chicago-NL, 15 hits to 10.

The win was credited to Sal Maglie(11-8) who went 6 innings allowing 3 runs.
Harry Brecheen earned the save, his 2nd. Bob Feller(0-7) was the loser. He
got hammered, allowing 13 hits and 7 walks in 7 innings.

'I just wanted to give my team a chance to win.' said Maglie, 'I got burned on
a couple of pitches. But we won the game, and that's all that matters.'
