The Washington Nationals had an easy time of it at Griffith Stadium defeating
the New York-AL Yankees by a score of 9 to 4.

Washington jumped out to the early lead in the first inning scoring 4 runners
on 4 hits.  The crucial at-bat was provided by Al Smith who made the crowd
happy when he rifled a three-run blast.  Washington managed 9 hits in their
victory.  

Carl Erskine(9-6) allowed 2 runs in 6 innings, and picked up the victory. Roy
Face gained credit for his 4th save.  The losing pitcher was Art Fowler(2-8).
